Just One Day Till Retirement…

Action movies always have that one character. The veteran cop who is nearing his retirement. The best friend with a baby on the way. These are the sluts of a slasher film. The sacrificial lamb so to speak. One of the strongest action clichés along with one liners and the epic villain death. The one character that when that one detail is spoken or even hinted at, you just know they will die. Why is that? For emotional effect obviously. Our hero needs some incentive in kicking some ass and what better way to spark that fire than with some good old fashioned revenge. I always do feel bad for these guys. That rookie cop who has to hang with our hero. He has his whole life ahead of him and BANG!…..dead as a doornail. Why? Because you’re not important enough. It’s an epidemic I tell you.

Hey Jack, my wife is having a baby! (Gets shot 30 times)

Hey Jack, no more monkey business. I have three days till retirement. (Gets caught up with some bad people or gets shot 40 times)

Hey Jack, I’m just some random character in your movie that will die soon to give your incoming onslaught of violence more meaning. (He dies)

Then there’s the extension in which death isn’t the outcome, but rather just a bunch of bad situations that ruin your life. The hitman who is tired of killing and wants a normal life and takes his final job. What does that final job entail? The possible murder of your family and friends. No big deal right?

So in conclusion, don’t fall into the trap of these situations. Don’t have kids, retire early, and keep taking those contractssssss (My Statham impression) because if you do, it might be your last chance at life.

About the Author

Omar
My name is Omar and I love action movies. I grew up loving action films thanks in part to my father who would deliver a healthy dose of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, and Seagal in my movie diet. Ever since then, I continue to love the genre more and more and go along perfectly with my love for the horror genre. What other movie genre can specialize in giving you pure adrenaline and excitement in every turn?
