Legends of Action: Joel Silver

Today I’m going to talk about a true legend. A man who along with Mario Kassar and Jerry Bruckheimer reinvented the action genre; ladies and gentlemen I give you Joel Silver. This is a name EVERYONE who loves action movies should know; if you don’t, you’re a disgrace.

Mr. Silver has produced such movies as: Unknown, The Losers, The Book of Eli, Sherlock Holmes, Ninja Assassin, V for Vendetta, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Swordfish, Exit Wounds, Romeo Must Die, The Matrix, Executive Decision, Fair Game, Assassins, Demolition Man, The Last Boy Scout, Ricochet, Predator 1 & 2, The Die Hard Series, The Lethal Weapon Series, Road House, Commando, 48 Hrs. and many more.

Now if that isn’t a resume to impress you then I don’t know what is; in fact I think I have to say, he has produced the greatest action movies of all time and worked with some of the most talented people in the motion pictures industry.

This is a man who not only understands the action genre, he damn well created it. If I see Joel Silver’s name in the opening credits of a movie I know I’m gonna enjoy the hell out of it.

Mr. Silver is quoted as saying “I want an explosion the size of Cleveland” on the set of one his movies. Now this is my kinda guy, he thinks big and makes big pictures; that is what I want to see and that is what I would someday love to make.

Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures Entertainment has recently signed a five-year domestic distribution deal with Universal Pictures. The deal comes in the wake of Silver losing his deal at Warner Bros. His next picture will be the action thriller “Non-Stop,” starring Liam Neeson and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Liam Neeson? Joel Silver? Sign me up! So it looks like Mr. Silver will be providing us with action-flavoured goodness for the foreseeable future.

Kneel Before Joel!
