My Thoughts: Robocop Remake

Robocop is one of the most influential and standout movies of the 80’s and a classic in the sci-fi and action genres. Of course, it is getting remade along with everything else. But is it worth checking out? Maybe.

So far, the cast looks good. Gary Oldman as Norton seems promising enough to be a good role for Oldman. He is capable of getting into the character and I would really like to see how they will work on his relationship with Robocop. Samuel Jackson is rumored to also be cast in the movie and I’m also behind this as well. Can’t go wrong with Sam Jackson. Joel Kinnaman plays Robocop himself in the remake and I’m not familiar with the man. He was in Safe House, but I don’t remember him in it. So I’ll just stick to hoping he doesn’t suck and turns in a good performance although the shadow of Peter Weller is pretty damn big to overcome. Then there’s the other characters like Clarence, Dick Jones, and Officer Lewis. the casting of these characters can help make or break this movie as they are quintessential to the story.

The director is an unknown to me also. Can he translate the satire of the original? Will he ignore it completely or just simply make it deathly obvious? Will the movie a CG mess? Is the Robocop design going to be Iron Man-esque? Is the movie R or PG-13? These burning questions are running around in my head looking for a solution. All I can do is sit and wait on further news and hope that this remake can at least do the original justice. So far, it looks like it has potential based on the cast alone, but it’s too early to tell.

Omar
My name is Omar and I love action movies. I grew up loving action films thanks in part to my father who would deliver a healthy dose of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, and Seagal in my movie diet. Ever since then, I continue to love the genre more and more and go along perfectly with my love for the horror genre. What other movie genre can specialize in giving you pure adrenaline and excitement in every turn?
