The Gangster Squad Editing Issue

Us action fans love our movies. We cherish them and care for them almost like a loved one in a way. The many great memories and feelings to us as fans that it’s no wonder why we cherish them so much (that’s why this site exists). However, there comes a time when our movies get scrutinized by certain events and people that just makes us ask “Why?”. It seems like those times have arrived again with the debacle about Gangster Squad and the Aurora shootings.

After the tragic Aurora shooting, it was obvious that there was going to be repercussions due to this event. So we come to the movie Gangster Squad getting the scene of the guys firing through the movie screen in the movie theater cut out of the film due to the Aurora shooting. And it’s all just a sad and frustrating thing to see.

I’m excited for Gangster Squad as it brings back the aesthetic beauty of an old school gangster film. The theater shooting scene in the trailer was the money shot and it hooked me in. Now it seems like the scene has been cut, the movie delayed, and possibly getting re-shoots. Obviously, Warner Brothers were in a crossroads due to the response of their actions whichever direction they went with. If they decided to keep the film intact, then the backlash from people would commence and catch fire. Now that they did, they are still getting backlash from people who don’t want to see a studio get coerced by some lunatic who decided to ruin an innocent night of movie watching.

I understand why they did it. Out of respect for the victims of the shooting and their families. However, they essentially are butchering the director’s vision due to the fear they are experiencing over the backlash that it seems unfair and just sad. Seeing these people let a poor excuse for a human being dictate their actions just makes them look weak for me.

Hopefully, the movie gets an intact release whether it is on Blu-Ray or theaters. Right now though, it’s just another hit towards us movie fans because of a poor excuse of a man that needs to be dropped off a cliff. It not only affects us as people, but as movie fans first and foremost.

About the Author

My name is Omar and I love action movies. I grew up loving action films thanks in part to my father who would deliver a healthy dose of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, and Seagal in my movie diet. Ever since then, I continue to love the genre more and more and go along perfectly with my love for the horror genre. What other movie genre can specialize in giving you pure adrenaline and excitement in every turn?
