Burn Notice

I’m sure most of you have already heard of this TV show on the USA Channel, but for those who haven’t, let me tell you a bit about it… go on, please?

The cast is as follows:

Michael Westen: Jeffrey Donovan
Fiona Glenanne: Gabrielle Anwar
Sam Axe: Bruce Campbell
Madeline Westen: Sharon Gless

Official Synopsis:

“Spies don’t get fired; they get burned. Michael Westen has received a “burn notice”. Dumped in his hometown of Miami, Florida, he’s been left in the cold with no money, no job and no information. With no job history, cash or credit, he becomes a private eye with the skills he picked up as an intelligence operative. With the help of his old friend, the drinking, womanizing Sam Axe, and his gun-running, trigger-happy ex-girlfriend Fiona, he makes people’s problems go away. But when he’s done, Michael’s biggest problem becomes finding out who burned him and trying to get back into the game.”

Burn Notice has just the right amount of action and comedy to make it my favourite show on television. The acting and script are always pretty sharp, but for me the show belongs to Sam Axe; Michael’s best friend played to perfection by Bruce Campbell. He’s the most loyal friend you could have and even when Michael’s decision making is questionable Sam is there to back him up… or kick his ass, if required.

Fiona is one of the best written female characters in an action oriented TV show; despite a rocky start with a dodgy Oirish accent in the first episode, they rightly changed it to American.

Which reminds me of the only thing that bothers me about the show: they haven’t changed that opening sequence in 6 seasons. “My name is Michael Westen, I used to be a spy.” “Where am I?” Moiami” You know spies, Mike; A bunch of bitchy little girls” and so on. So, if we get a Season 7 I’d love it if you’d very kindly change the opening so we don’t have the hear that same dialogue over and over.

Aside from that minor quibble, Burn Notice remains one of the best shows on TV with great action scenes, beautiful people and plenty for guys and gals of all ages to enjoy.
