10 Of The Best: Bruce Willis Action Films

Believe it or not, Bruce Willis can be a really good actor. He has had memorable roles in many remarkable films over the years, such as Pulp Fiction, Unbreakable and most recently Moonrise Kingdom.

But, Bruno will always be an action legend first and foremost! With the likes of Looper, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Red 2 coming within the next year, he shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon! Here are his top ten “must see” action films;

10. Last Man Standing (1996) – Although this is not an action movie by some standards, when the action comes it is indeed big! Plus, this was a step away from the traditional action films that Bruce is most known for.

9. 16 Blocks (2006) – This movie was marketed as a Die Hard type of vehicle and because of that it disappointed many fans. But, Bruce plays the role wonderfully as the wimp cop who has to grow a backbone and stand up for what is right.

8. Tears of the Sun (2003) – This is another one of those action movies that has a bit more of a message, so the action can be sporadic at times. But, this is one of Bruce’s better performances. And let’s face it; he had to have a war film to add to his impressive resume.

7. Hostage (2005) – This is one of his most often overlooked films. It is very dark and creepy. Although Bruno doesn’t get down and dirty like you would hope, there is more than enough tension and suspense to get the adrenaline pumping!

6. Red (2010) – Just a fun film that proves that PG-13 has a place in the action genre. The ensemble cast that was placed around Bruce is fantastic and there is never a dull moment, even when it goes some scenes with just dialogue.

5. Striking Distance (1993) – Another of Bruno’s that gets lost in the shuffle. It is obvious that this film is trying to cash in from his Die Hard popularity at the time. But, it does it so well, that you could care less and enjoy it anyway!

4. The Last Boy Scout (1991) – This film is so delightful in every way! Damon Wayans and Bruce have such great chemistry and their bickering back and forth is some of the best committed to film. I would give anything to see a sequel!

3. The Fifth Element (1997) – Many fans disregard this one due to Chris Tucker’s annoyance. But, there are so many great things about this film. The script is very witty and only enhanced that much more by the cast member’s performances. The sci-fi genre is fortunate to have this movie attached to it!

2. Armageddon (1998) – It’s hard for some to consider this an action film. But, when Bruce Willis sets out on a rocket into outer space to save the entire human race, some spectacular action ensues! Again, it is the dialogue and wit of the cast that drives this one for much of the show. But, the film makes you both laugh and cry and keeps you on the edge of your seat during much of it too!

1. The Die Hard Series (1988, 1990, 1995, 2007, 2013) – It may seem like a bit of a cheat to include an entire series (and yes, I mean an ENTIRE series) in one slot. But if I didn’t, I would be robbing you good people of several great action films, because each and every one of these entries would take up much of this list! You have seen them all and there is nothing to say about them except… see them again!

About the Author

Brian M
Movies have been a big part of my life since the creation of the VCR. They have always been a way for me to escape. The action genre allowed that feeling more than any other, because the heroes in these films were living in an ordinary world, but were doing extraordinary things. Watching action movies encourages my imagination to explore while I am doing even the most mundane thing and make it exciting. Don't be afraid to use your imagination and keep action alive, no matter how old you get.
