The Expendabelles: Good Idea?

So it seems to be official: an all female spin off of The Expendables is in motion and it could possibly be called The Expendabelles. Gina Carano is already in the middle of getting cast with numerous other candidates to be considered for the movie as well. But the big question, is it a good idea?

A female Expendables movie would be fine because we desperately need more female action heroines in our movie world. I can count with one hand the amount of iconic female badasses in movies and that’s a sad fact to face. So this movie can help remind of of these long forgotten characters plus creating new ones, but it is the who that remains the problem.

You have the obvious choices of Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton. They are the Schwarzenegger and Stallone of the action genre. They HAVE to be in this film if it gets made. Whether it is cameo or a bigger role, they need to be inserted in the film to remind us of how awesome they were in Aliens and Terminator 2 respectively. Who else gets to be added though? Carano hasn’t solidified herself in the genre yet so we have Jovovich and Beckinsale remaining which could work regardless of their filmography. Michelle Rodriguez is a given for sure and could play a good villain if given the chance. They can reach down deep and get Devon Aoki, Lucy Liu, Uma Thurman, and Zoe Bell to round out the cast which would be great to see. However, there are many remaining questions to be answered here.

Will they be interested in a R rated shoot em’up action movie?

Who would play the villain?

Will they cast an up and comer to attempt to create a new action heroine?

Could it play to a battle of the sexes theme?

It still remains to be seen, but I’m open to the idea because women love action as well despite what stereotypes say and we can sure need more Ripleys and Sarah Connors in this world.

About the Author

My name is Omar and I love action movies. I grew up loving action films thanks in part to my father who would deliver a healthy dose of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, and Seagal in my movie diet. Ever since then, I continue to love the genre more and more and go along perfectly with my love for the horror genre. What other movie genre can specialize in giving you pure adrenaline and excitement in every turn?
