10 of the Best: Movie Hitmen

  • 1. Jules and Vincent (Samuel L. Jackson & John Travolta): Pulp Fiction – How can hired killers be so damn likable? Well, Sam and John are just that in Tarantino’s pop culture masterpiece. They’re cool and yet scary at the same time.
  • 2. Martin Blanke (John Cusack): Grosse Pointe Blanke – It must be tough for a hired killer to show up at his high school reunion, in this classic black comedy we find out just how tough.

  • 3. Vincent (Tom Cruise): Collateral – Tom Cruise really suits this look and I consider this his finest role to date; he’s never been cooler or more ruthless. I approve.
  • 4. Leon (Jean Reno): The Professional – The Extended Cut of this movie makes you feel kinda awkward as they really explore the relationship between Leon and Mathilda.
  • 5.  Ah Jong (Chow Yun Fat) The Killer – It’s Chow Yun Fat. Nuff said.
  • 6. Robert Rath (Sly Stallone): Assassins – As I’ve argued many times I love this movie and think it’s really underrated. It’s a more serious role for Stallone and he plays the part well.
  • 7. Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant): Hitman – Although Olyphant was miscast in this film, he played the part well and came across as cold and heartless. He loses points however, when he says no to Olga Kurylenko. Really dude, really?
  • 8. The Jackal (Bruce Willis): The Jackal – The film is let down by Richard Gere’s Lucky Charm’s Leprechaun voice but Bruce was super cool as the nameless assassin known only as “The Jackal.”
  • 9.  Maggie Hayward (Bridget Fonda) Point of No Return/The Assassin – Bit of a forgotten gem this one. Her character is pretty cold and unlikable which makes her feel more realistic and believable.
  • 10. Arthur Bishop (Charles Bronson/Jason Statham) The Mechanic – I take contracccttsss, designated targetsss. Love the way The Stath says that line. I enjoy both versions of the film and Charles Bronson also displays coldness very well.
