Why I’m Worried About The Last Stand

As an action movie site, to us Arnie is King, that goes without saying. Watching him blow shit up and utter the odd terrible one-liner always brings a smile to my face. When I first heard about The Last Stand, I rejoiced and thought “Yaay, the legend of action returns!”

Then the trailer came out and I thought “Alright that looks goo– what the hell?!” Yep, Johnny Knoxville.

Why is he in this movie? We already know it’s to provide “comic relief” but we also know that comic relief has never been funny. It’s an excuse to put in an annoying character to keep things “light” but what they really do is ruin what would otherwise be a good film (The Fifth Element, etc).

I have nothing against Johnny Knoxville at all, but his character just looks annoying even from the trailers. I worry that he’ll be the “funny” guy who is joking about Arnie looking buff and he’ll act all “crazy”, but it will cease to be humorous before the opening credits have even finished. Just look at the poster, he even looks annoying there. Why the hell is he wearing those stupid goggles?!?!

I’ve said it before that there is nothing funnier than a good script and perhaps some casual brutality, but side characters who are only there to provide “comic relief” just don’t cut it for me.

Will I be seeing this movie on opening weekend? Damn straight, but my expectations are a little lower.
