Does Anyone REALLY Want Ghostbusters 3?

Look, I’m as big a fan of Ghostbusters as the next guy, I grew up in the 80’s and it was regular viewing in my household. The script, acting and special effects are all still fantastic and it really stands the test of time. Heck, I even enjoyed Ghostbusters 2 despite how ludicrous it was but the thing is, some things should just stay in the 80s. You aren’t going to convince kids today to get invested in a 27 year old franchise and the majority of us grown ups already have really low expectations for a 3rd part. Not from a quality standpoint but from a “why didn’t they do this 15 years ago?” standpoint.

Dan Akroyd said in a recent interview with Esquire magazine that “Man-hell-ttan, and the Ghostbusters in hell, would be so solid, but we gotta get maybe one or two made before that. But, oh, wow… I wrote that with Tom Davis, my writing partner, recently deceased, who wrote Coneheads with me and stuff on Saturday Night Live. There’s classic Tom Davis lines and funny stuff in there, really it’s probably the most humorous of all the Ghostbusters scripts that have generated in that last little while. But we’ll put the humor into this next one. It’s gotta be funny, or it’s not worth doing. It can be scary, it can be Ghostbusters, it can be the new franchise, the new people, but if it’s not funny … Wait a minute, it started as a comedy. Let’s make sure there’s laughs and no laugh unturned and that we really make that our priority, to make it funny and exciting, but mainly funny“.

Sure it sounds like it could be fun, but let’s face it, without Bill Murray the movie has no selling point. It was Murray who made the original film a classic with his dry delivery and chemistry with Sigourney Weaver.

I’m not really interested in a reboot either or bringing in a younger cast, I say just leave it as is and try coming up with new material and stop trying to regurgitate long lost (but never forgotten) movies.

But what do you guys think? Do you want Ghostbusters 3 or do you think the franchise ended with Part 2 all those years ago. Answer the poll below and share your thoughts.
