Is the New Star Trek Villain Khan?

I know this has been speculated for months and at first I thought Benedict Cumberbatch was playing someone completely new… then I saw the Japanese teaser trailer (below).

Now, that last moment with the two hands on glass seems mighty familiar to me. “I have been, and always shall be, your friend” *sniff*. Yes, it is a direct homage to that scene in Wrath of Khan, but is that all it is? Just a dedication to the film or this this a new version of  the same character? He is also listed as Khan (rumoured) on IMDB as well.

It may well be just a nod to the film but if it does end up being Khan, then I’d be pretty pleased. No matter who the villain is, Benedict Cumberbatch (best name ever) is a fantastic actor and I just know he will be a villain for the ages. Bring it!
