The Walking Dead Censorship Debate

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s censorship; people trying to to force others to think the way they do because they are too weak to handle sex/violence/whatever on screen. Now I’m all for protecting “the children” but that’s up to their parents, no one else!

These people trying to push their beliefs on what is right and wrong really grinds my gears. This is meant to be a free society where you can decide for yourself what your kids can and can’t watch. Parents should be sitting with their kids and actually being responsible for what their kids watch.

If you think that show is too violent then you turn the channel over, if the kids try to watch it behind your back then you block the channel. What you don’t do is blame the cable company/studio for making an adult oriented TV show.

Apparently the Parents Television Council are whining that The Walking Dead is too violent for children and they want the rating changed. The rating of the show is 14+. Funny, I grew up watching R rated action/horror movies and I’ve never killed/hurt anyone.

TV, Movies, Video Games or books are not responsible for people doing stupid things. The only person responsible is the perpetrator.

The Walking Dead; you can tell in the title alone that isn’t a children’s TV show. It’s about zombies and anyone with half a brain (mmm brains) knows that when zombies are involved then it’s going to have violence in it.

Frankly watching a bit of sex and violence prepares people for the real world because guess what? The real world isn’t nice and bad things happen. The sickest movie of all time has nothing on what happens in real life. If someone picks up a gun and goes on a shooting spree that’s not a movie’s fault, it’s the guy who picked up the gun. It’s called responsibility.

The point of this rant is it’s not some organization’s job to dictate what you can and can’t watch, its up to you as a parent because you are responsible for your kids, not TV Networks. If you think a show is too violent, turn the channel over!

So what do you kids think? Should there be tighter restrictions on what is shown on TV/Movies?
