Carnahan Out of Death Wish, Bruce Willis in?

This is a remake I have no real interest in as the original Charles Bronson Death Wish is a gritty, hardcore classic. Joe Carnahan was in line to remake the movie and had his own ideas for who to cast. With him directing I was convinced he would maintain the tone of the original classic.

Alas, for him the studio had other plans and they want Bruce Willis in the role of Paul Kersey. This is not who Carnahan had in mind for the role, so he has now dropped out as director.

Remember when Sly was lined up to be in it? What’s next, Arnie?

Anyway, Bruce Willis rocks and I have to say that if they cast him then I’d be 100% down to watch it. The thing is though is that he is already an action guy and Paul Kersey is a normal man who is pushed too far… kinda like John McClane.

I think he could do the role in his sleep and I have no doubt that he would be good, but he’s not the guy I’d chose for it.

Frankly there are few people who could replace the great Charlie Bronson, so I remain sceptical about the idea of a remake. I can picture it already, more shaky cam, it needs to look more blue, let’s tone down the violence and make it family friendly, ugh.

I also doubt the film would be as dark and violent as the original classic. I’m disappointed Carnahan has dropped out as he would have been a great choice to direct.

Anyway, they may surprise us and the film could be awesome with a great cast, but frankly I’ll believe it when I see it. I have a feeling we won’t be seeing it for a while… if ever.
