10 Reasons To Be Excited For Iron Man 3

It’s funny; I’m so full of sh*t. I always say I’m sick of superhero movies and yet… they keep making good ones. So far I haven’t exactly been blown away by the trailers for Man of Steel but Iron Man 3 looks colourful and fun; it does look a little more serious than the other 2 in the series, but not sombre.

The Iron Man movies are actually my favourite Marvel movies and Part 3 looks like it’s going to be something special and here’s why.

1. It’s directed and written by Shane Black, arguably the greatest action movie writer of all time. He’s only written the Lethal Weapon Series, The Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Long Kiss Goodnight and The Last Action Hero (yeah it’s actually pretty decent). He is the master of the one-liner so you are guaranteed that the script will be top notch.

2. Brian Tyler is doing the score. Tyler provided the bombastic score to The Expendables movies, Rambo, Battle: LA and The Fast & the Furious to name a few. I’ve always found that the Marvel movies haven’t had amazingly memorable scores but Tyler knows action and I think we may be in for a treat.

3. It’s the first big Marvel movie since last summer’s super mash hit The Avengers, so expectations are extremely high. It’s the beginning of Phase 2 and lays the groundwork for what we can expect in The Avengers 2.

4. Iron Man 3 apparently has an even more spectacular final action sequence than The Avengers. After watching it, Joss Whedon asked “Now what am I doing to do?” because he was blown away by it and will have to really bring his A Game for Avengers 2.

5. Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin could be the next Bane. What do I mean? His voice sounds extremely weird and I think people will be trying to mimic him like they did Bane: “You’ll nevvverrr see mee coming.” TDKR was successful because people would keep going back to rewatch it and one of the reasons was to see the villain and mimic the voice.

6. Robert Downey Jr. embodies Tony Stark perfectly; even when the character is being a total ass (which is regularly) Downey Jr.’s charm always shines through. You totally root for him and he can do action scenes with humour and spectacle with ease.

7. Guy Pearce can class up any movie (See Lockout) and in Iron Man 3 he’s playing Aldrich Killian, creator of the Extremis virus. Needless to say he isn’t the good guy and he is more the “brains of the operation where The Mandarin is the mouthpiece.”

8. The Iron Patriot might make audiences proud of the red, white and blue once more after several dark years and inner turmoil. Apparently the Iron Patriot was created by Norman Osborne during the ‘Dark Reign” period of the comics. He was a mixture of Iron Man and Captain America. He’ll be played by Don Cheadle who returns once again as Tony Stark’s best friend. Expect much buddy banter between Stark and Rhodes.

9. William Sadler is the President of the USA. You can take that to the bank! Sadler is always worth watching and his villain in Die Hard was one of the best things about the movie. His comedic turn as Death in Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey was comic genius.

10. There will undoubtedly be something awesome after the end credits to tease us for the next film, so expect either a tidbit for Thor: The Dark World or Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
