Could The Amazing Spider-Man 2 be Spider-Man 3 All Over Again?

I’m one of the people that thought The Amazing Spider-Man was a solid reboot. Nothing “amazing” (ba dum dush), but it was a serviceable restart to the franchise with a solid Peter Parker/Spidey in Andrew Garfield and the ever excellent Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

Now the sequel is currently being filmed and Garfield, Stone, and Sally Field are back for the sequel with some new characters this time around. We have two villains in this new film. One being Electro being played by Jamie Foxx. The other being Rhino being played by Paul Giamatti. Then there’s the confirmation of Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn (also known as Green Goblin), and Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane. Then there’s the addition of Felicity Jones as a mystery character as well. That is quite the packed cast right there and that’s what is worrying me.

Spider-Man 3 had Sandman, Harry Osborn, and Venom all thrown into the pot and you know how that turned out. A giant mess. Could The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suffer the same fate? While I do think the cast is really strong which includes several Oscar nominated actors, I’m still getting this nagging feeling that it could turn up messy. As long as they can get an equal balance of Peter’s love troubles and web slinging action, then it can work in this new direction for the series. I just don’t want Goth Spider-Man to appear again this time.

About the Author

My name is Omar and I love action movies. I grew up loving action films thanks in part to my father who would deliver a healthy dose of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, and Seagal in my movie diet. Ever since then, I continue to love the genre more and more and go along perfectly with my love for the horror genre. What other movie genre can specialize in giving you pure adrenaline and excitement in every turn?
