4 Action Movies That Deserve the Blu Ray Treatment

There are a few classic action movies that are still only available on DVD that could really use the High Def treatment; here are a few that I really want to see ASAP.

Hard Target: I know everyone thinks this is coming out in October but that was actually just some dickhead’s weird April Fool’s joke. I emailed Universal and they advised that they have no plans on releasing this JCVD classic on Blu Ray at any point in the near future. John Woo’s action scenes would look amazing digitally remastered so I think this is a real missed opportunity if they don’t do it. They’ve already released a few other JCVD movies like Double Impact on Blu Ray so why not this?

Sudden Death: Another JCVD favourite also not coming to Blu Ray any time soon is this awesome Die Hard clone about terrorists taking over an ice hockey stadium during the Stanley Cup final. The reason this movie deserves the HD makeover is because of the sound editing. The action in this movie is expertly mixed with the hockey game and with the sound effects of the ice hockey on a surround system, it would sound amazing in 7.1 Surround.

The Abyss: I can’t believe this hasn’t actually been released yet but James Cameron’s underwater sci-fi/action epic is not available yet on Blu Ray. Word on the street is that there may be a release later this year. I sure hope so because it’s one of my favourite films and all of those underwater sequences will look amazing… if transferred properly. if anyone can do it, it’s Cameron.

True Lies: Another Cameron movie that still isn’t on Blu Ray is this insane Arnie movie. Huge action scenes and a real sense of scale, this is the kind of movie that Blu Ray was made for. Like The Abyss there are rumblings about a Blu Ray release later this year.

Kinda hard to believe none of these are on Blu Ray yet isn’t it? Sudden Death and Hard Target are essential for me so feel free to keep bugging Universal until they start to listen to us fans.
