Is The Avengers 2 in Trouble?

There’s been a lot of talk recently about whether or not Robert Downey Jr. would be reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in any future movies. Downey Jr stated in a recent interview “My intent is to launch another franchise, independent of any that I can even imagine right now; my intent is to dominate the playing field for as long as I can, with my own challenges, with myself.”

Not only is Downey reluctant to sign on but rumour has it Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johannson are also in doubt. When some cast members are being paid $200,000 to star in The Avengers and Downey Jr. is being paid $50 million then obviously people are going to ask questions.  Hemsworth has stated that he wasn’t in a huge rush to get back into the training regime and diet required to play Thor and Scarlett has said she is “not going to cut her quote”.

Jeremy Renner wasn’t overly pleased with his role in the first Avengers either, so he could also be recast.

Marvel are notorious for their ruthlessness and have no problem recasting roles if anyone steps out of line; just ask Edward Norton or Terence Howard.

With new cast members like Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch joining proceedings then it will be interesting to see who is cast and how much they earn.

I have to admit that I was pretty shocked to learn how little the other cast members earned from the first Avengers film and it’s no wonder they are playing hardball. If Marvel continue this trend then they will run out of people to cast in their movies.

Rumor has it that Downey Jr. will be signing on for future Avengers movies but there is still no word on whether he will return to standalone Iron Man movies.
