Poll: Triple the Van Dammage

3 movies starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, where he plays 2 separate characters: Double Impact, Replicant and Maximum Risk. All three are great fun but which is the best? Let’s discuss…

Replicant: This is a bit of an underrated gem actually. You’ve got JCVD playing a serial killer for one thing in arguably his best performances as a villain. He is genuinely threatening in this where he isn’t over the top. He’s just a bad egg with some mommy issues. He does get to go toe to toe with the legendary Michael Rooker who is on action hero duties; however the main hero is JCVD… huh? Yup they make a clone which normally is a cop-out but it’s actually the basis of this storyline. The cool thing is the clone has evil JCVD’s memories and can see where he’ll be… somehow. It doesn’t really matter as it’s just an excuse for Van Damme to fight himself in a rather nicely done fight scene at the end.

Maximum Risk: Another gem this; it has some truly great action sequences but Van Damme only plays one of the twins during a rather spectacular opening chase scene… before dying horribly. His twin brother finds out about him and begins looking into his death. He finds out that he was involved with some nasty people and for reasons beyond understanding he decides to take over his dead brother’s life and find out what is really going on. The action in this movie is some of the best in any JCVD flick and it has the added bonus of Natasha Henstridge getting naked.

Double Impact: And finally this is one of my favourite Van Damme movies and despite some of the effects looking a little ropey by today’s standards I think that Jean-Claude Van Damme plays the two brothers very well.  One packs a punch and the other packs a piece to quote the tagline and they do indeed deliver. You’ve got a JCVD vs. Bolo reunion fight and a fabulously executed fight within the shadows with a cowboy villain. Once again the action is awesome and the two brothers have distinctive personalities, which is a tough thing to pull off.

THE WINNER: It’s not really fair is it? You know fine well it’s going to be DOUBLE IMPACT. The fact that it has the added bonus of Bolo and just some great fights/action makes it stand above the others. But this is just my opinion. Take our poll below and let us know which of these 3 movies you prefer.

I grew up watching JCVD, Sly and Arnold destroy bad guys, blow things up and spew one-liners like it's a fashion statement. Action is everything I go to the movies for and the reason I came up with this site is to share my love for the genre with everyone.
