Matt Smith – Hanging up his bow tie.

Breaking news – Matt Smith is not returning for Series 8 of Doctor Who.

Matt took over the roll from David Tennant (who is my second favorite Doctor – after Tom Baker) and I thought Matt was pretty good. Not as good at DT, but still really cool and funny! On the whole his first couple of seasons were pretty good, but this recent season has been FANTASTIC. I was really digging his new look in Series 7 Part 2 and I loved the new intro with Matt’s face in the opening credits.

I also felt that Matt had grown as an actor and I started to really feel for him in the role. I mean I got emotional at times! He was really growing on me and he was on track to being one of the best Doctor’s ever!
(note – every one of them is great in their own way and I love all the Doctors)

With The Doctor and Clara Oswald (his new mysterious companion) teaming up in this latest season I was totally pumped up for having them both return in Series 8. I am rather disappointed at hearing the news that Matt is done.

You know just today I finished watching the Tom Baker run of Doctor Who. I was actually very sad about it, even though I have seen some of Peter Davison’s work and I think he is great, but seeing Tom Baker leave after so many years was tough. I just felt very sad over the whole thing. I mean I own all the DVDs so I knew Tom was done after this episode, but it was still sad! That’s how great he was. And to have this news hit me, literally after I watched Tom Baker leave, I am now super upset! I lost TWO Doctors in one day!

Well, I have to say that Matt Smith had a terrific run (not long enough – one more year was needed) and I hope they really give him a great send off. It was heartbreaking when David Tennant left, and I cried like a baby (still do when I re-watch it), so I hope they don’t make it too sad, but just the thought of Matt leaving is already sad enough.

Good luck to the 12th Doctor – WHO-ever he will be!

Don’t forget, the Doctor can only regenerate 12 times, so make it a good one!
