Poll: Are You Excited for Pacific Rim?

Word around the campfire is that Guillermo del Toro’s monster mash-up hitting theatres next month isn’t generating a whole lot of buzz. A lot of people say it’s a dumb idea, looks too much like Transformers or even Battleship.

Although it’s difficult to disagree with these arguments I think it looks like a blast. I do have my suspicions though that it may not be the box office smash we’ve been expecting.

The “Today we are cancelling the apocalypse” line is incredibly lame and I feel my face going red every time I see it. Not a good sign.

It does look like it may have a limited audience because if you a) aren’t 12 or b) never grew up watching monster flicks then you may not care about it.

I’ve heard complaints that it’s too colourful as well, which is an odd thing to say, but there also could be CGI overload which audiences still aren’t fans of.

On the other hand it has big monsters fighting big robots so all other arguments are moot. Me? I’ll be there opening night to see it in IMAX 3D because I DID grow up with Godzilla, Ultraman, etc but I’m intrigued to see what the box office will be like.

There are plenty of other people who think it looks awesome and Rian Johnson who directed Looper is one of them; he said “Prepare to be transmogrified into a 12 year old. I love it so much.”

So let us know your thoughts below.
