Poll: Will You Watch the Independence Day Sequel?

It was announced yesterday that we would get a (very belated) sequel to the alien invasion classic Independence Day, to be released in 2015. A lot of people don’t like the original because it’s very cheesy, but that’s part of why I love it so much.

For me it is the best ever alien invasion movie and nothing really comes close in terms of sheer entertainment. I think the sequel will be a very different movie and there is no word as yet on whether the original cast will return.

Personally I think they have waited far too long and I don’t see how they will sell this to modern, cynical audiences. However, cheese is still alive and well in Pacific Rim with the “Today we are cancelling the apocalypse” line, which I maintain is beyond lame. So you never know…

Director of Independence Day Roland Emmerich recently told Entertainment Weekly “The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that’s 20 or 25 years.”

“It’s a changed world. It’s like parallel history. [Humans] have harnessed all this alien technology. We don’t know how to duplicate it because it’s organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an antigravity device and put it in a human airplane.”

OK, this does sound rather cool and no matter what I will be 100% down, but I just hope they keep the same sense of fun as the original movie; glad they killed off Randy Quaid’s character though.
