Friday Fight: Robocop vs. The Terminator

Two walking (nearly) indestructible weapons from the future. Only one winner.

This is a tough one today as both cyborgs can take a sound beating… and then some.

Let’s get ready to rumble.

The T800 Terminator – The Terminator (1984)

Played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the T800 is Arnie at his meanest and became his most iconic character, spawning numerous sequels and even a TV show spin-off. But none of them have Arnie so perfectly cast as this stone cold, evil killer. He can be shot, stabbed, set on fire, punched, kicked and won’t even blink. As Kyle Reese says “He will never stop”. Unlike Robocop the Terminator doesn’t have any prime directives; he just has one task, to kill Sarah Connor… or anyone who gets in his way. Even after being blown up the T800 still manages to crawl after Sarah Connor who eventually crushes the evil cyborg in a factory press. I think Robocop may have his work cut out for him.

Robocop – Robocop (1987)

Robocop is part man, part machine but all cop; he was once a great cop named Alex Murphy who was gunned down by a sadistic mad man named Clarence Boddicker. Reborn as the best cop in the business, Robocop cleans up the streets and like The Terminator it takes a lot to take him down. As mentioned though he does have prime directives (AKA rules) which prevent him doing doing several things, like being utterly ruthless like The Terminator. To his advantage he does have a built in spike in his hand which he can use to stab his enemies. This sadly is as much use as a sore arse against a T800 who doesn’t have anything to stab. He is only synthetic tissue over metal, so being stabbed won’t even make him blink.

I think after a titanic battle, most of the city would be destroyed and possibly both cyborgs would still be standing, but for me the T800 has the advantage; he has no rules, no conscience and no humanity. Sorry Robo but you’re terminated, F**ker!
