Rock Music and Action Movies: The Perfect Marriage

Since I was a kid I have loved my rock music; screeching electric guitars just kick all kinds of ass but when mixed with on-screen action there is nothing better.

Whenever an action movie has some electric guitar used in the score (Con Air, Sinners & Saints, etc) that’s me in action movie nirvana.

The theme tune to Con Air is arguably my favourite action movie score of all time because that guitar theme is just the most heroic music since Superman. 2010’s Sinners & Saints had the great rock tune Let You Go by Johnny Strong but he also provided the score which yes, also had electric guitars.

The electric guitar can be used to either sound heroic, exciting or even gritty and it’s the perfect instrument for action.

In the 80s & 90s there was some quality cheese played during some of my favourite action movies but there are certain tunes which still stand out today.

AC/DC are always used to good effect and there are few cases better than in The Last Action Hero with Big Gun. The tune blows my pants off every time I hear it and it’s one of my favourite things about the underrated Arnie actioner. AC/DC were also used in the Iron Man movies and they would essentially become the character’s calling card.

The Scorpion King has Godsmack’s I Stand Alone as it’s main rock theme but there are several other metal/rock tunes used for the movie to perfect effect. Mission: Impossible II has Take a Look Around by Limp Bizkit which is also another favourite tune of mine.

A car chase just isn’t as interesting if there isn’t some guitar blazing during the action and any movie with guitar used in the score instantly gets a thumbs up from me.

So there you go, not really any point to this blog so I’ll just leave it with ZEPPELIN RULES! That is all.
