Whatever Happened to Rob Zombie’s Tyrannosaurus Rex?

Remember in about 2008 Rob Zombie started working a new horror movie called Tyrannosaurus Rex and it wasn’t about a dinosaur?

From what I gathered I believe this was the Synopsis: In the creepy, gore- drenched tradition of such cinematic ’70s classics as Duel and The Hills Have Eyes comes The Nail! Small-time pro-wrestler Rex Hauser (a.k.a. The Nail) makes a living touring the small-town wrestling circuit with his family. It’s business as usual for this close-knit bunch until they unwittingly cross paths with a murderous gang of Satanic bikers. But these aren’t your run-of-the-mill devil worshippers. In fact, Hauser and his family just might be up against the most un-Godly evil ever known to man.’

I was reading about the project on Freddy in Space and they were discussing the movie and how it wasn’t really going to be a horror movie but more of a 70’s style “incredibly violent action movie”. Sign me up.

Sadly we ended up getting the rather disappointing Lords of Salem instead, which had its moments but didn’t really have much in the way of extreme violence (Booo!)

Zombie stated in an interview with MTV that he expressed “concerns about nobody wanting to back a film that was an original idea, rather than one based on an established property, possibly foreshadowing the inevitable downfall of the project”. That actually really annoys me, how dare you come up with something original!

With all the endless remakes, sequels and prequels coming out these days something like this would have been welcome in my dojo.

I would have loved to have seen this movie and although Zombie has since stated that there isn’t much of a chance of it happening I still have a small hope that one day we may get to see this blood soaked opus.

Freddy in Space also posted a few images which were from Zombie’s MySpace Page (Remember that?) promoting the sadly doomed project. Check them out below.
