Action Heroes Are Forever

One thing I’ve been seeing a lot of people say (not on this site mind you as I’d kick their ass to the curb) is that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly Stallone are too old for action movies now and that they should retire. You know what I say? Shut the hell up!

They should NEVER retire because there is no one that will ever come close to what they have achieved in their careers. The Last Stand remains one of my favourite movies of this year and deserved to be a big hit.

It was Arnie back doing what he does best, but it wasn’t him pretending to be 30 years old contrary to what some people said. He was an playing an aging sheriff and he acted like one. He got battered and bruised, but still got up to kick some ass.

Look at Sly Stallone, now working on a third Expendables movie; his dedication to the action genre arguably makes him the greatest of all time but he is also an inspiration to us real action fans.

Bullet to the Head may have been flawed but no one could fault Stallone’s commitment to keeping an awesome physique; his character Jimmy Bobo is actually one of his best.

He was tough as nails and had some bone crunching fight scenes. Even in his 60s, Sly likes to do his own stunts and use practical effects whenever possible to give us the old-school action we so crave.

Jean-Claude Van Damme went through some tough times in his career but his role in the Expendables 2 really brought him back into the public eye and I am really excited to see Enemies Closer really soon.

Clint Eastwood is in his 80s and he made Gran Torino, essentially playing a retired Dirty Harry and it was showered with praise.

Just because our heroes get older doesn’t make them any less awesome; hell they could still kick the ass out of any of these under 30 pretty boys.

There are plenty of us out there always there to support our action heroes and as long as they keep kicking ass, we’ll be there to back them up. Our action heroes don’t get older, they get better.

I grew up watching JCVD, Sly and Arnold destroy bad guys, blow things up and spew one-liners like it's a fashion statement. Action is everything I go to the movies for and the reason I came up with this site is to share my love for the genre with everyone.
