International Action

If there is one thing that has really developed over recent years, it’s the international audience for movies. Now, more than ever the International market can make or break a film’s success.

Just because a film may not be a big hit in the US, doesn’t mean it will fail elsewhere. The Expendables 2 only made $80 odd million in the States but thanks to international audiences it made $300 million worldwide.

It’s not just international audiences that are making a difference but international filmmakers too. The Raid is widely considered one of the best action movies of recent times and it was made in Indonesia by a Welsh director.

The Elite Squad movies are made in Brazil and have a huge following; they have proven so popular that Hollywood came calling for the director José Padilha, who is now *sigh* remaking Robocop.

With so many big Hollywood movies being CGI filled cartoons, it’s been international filmmakers that have constantly innovated with the action genre. The majority of people who contact us about their films are from all over the world including Britain, South America and India but there are also plenty from North America too.

India has many thousands of action fans and Bollywood has created some great actioners over the years. The DON movies were hugely successful and this year we’ve even had the excellent Commando (not the Arnie movie) and many more.

China is rapidly becoming the biggest superpower in he world and their audience is really helping the action genre by bringing in a lot of money.

As the world economy changes and the balance of power constantly moves, we are seeing movies from places we would never expect and it’s fantastic to watch.

So if you don’t watch a movie simply because it has subtitles then you may be missing out on an absolute treat. Let’s a raise a glass to action fans the world over for keeping the genre alive and kicking.
