Sue Me! I Love Assassins

Here’s a Stallone movie that doesn’t get much love… in fact, none at all. It came and went from cinemas in the space of a weekend basically but I’ve always loved it. Antonio Banderas does his best Joker impression as insane hitman Miguel Bain, with such lines as “Today I become namber wan!” and “Killing a woman is different from killing a man, you have to pull the trigger a different way!”

He’s fabulously over the top and everything a villain should be.

Banderas steals the movie with his don’t give a shit attitude but Stallone gives a controlled performance as Robert Rath a hitman who is world-weary and wants to retire, but for Miguel Bain he’ll never be number 1 while Rath is alive.

The story has plenty of twists and turns that I won’t get into here but I loved the fact that Stallone wasn’t afraid to try something different; he can’t play Rambo all the time, after all. There isn’t much in the way of big budget action, but that’s why I enjoy it; it’s actually pretty tense, especially the sweat filled finale outside the bank.

It’s directed by Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, Superman, etc) whose experience in the action genre is legendary and I thought this was a different kind of movie for him as well.

Julianne Moore is great as the con artist who is in way over her head; when Bain gets her in his sights, it’s up to Robert to protect her from him but also his former employers.

For those of you who don’t like it I think you should give it another shot; don’t go in expecting a One Man Army movie and I think you’ll find that the movie is actually pretty damn awesome.

So Sue Me! I love Assassins and if you don’t, then I guess I’ll see your ass in court.
