We posted a few photos from Jean-Claude Van Damme’s upcoming heist thriller ‘Swelter’ the other day and from what I’ve seen so far, I think it looks like it’s going to be awesome.
I really hope it actually gets a theatrical release and brings back JCVD into cinemas again. The recent massive success of his Volvo ad has really put his name on the map for modern audiences and I think people will be hungry for more Van Dammage soon.
There is also early word from Variety that Swelter has already sold out in all of its International markets; what this means is that there is HUGE interest in the movie which makes me think that it is going to be a quality action thriller.
Check out what Variety has stated below:
Jean-Claude Van Damme’s heist drama “Swelter” has sold out all of its international markets following the American Film Market.
The Exchange said deals included Planet Media GMBH for Germany/Switzerland, Revolutionary Releasing for CIS/ Baltics/Poland, Swen for Latin America, Happy Audience for France, Anchor Bay for UK, Culture Convenience Club for Japan, Padora for Bulgaria/Hungary/Czech/SlovakRepublics/Romania, Transmission Films for Australia/New Zealand, A Film for Benelux, Eagle Films for the Middle East and Tot Media for Spain.
A North American rights deal is in negotiations.
Story centers on a gang that steals more than $100 million from the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas. All but one of the five gang members are captured and jailed. Ten years later, after blasting their way out of a maximum security prison, the quartet go on the trail of their former accomplice and the remaining $10 million in stolen cash.
The cast includes Alfred Molina, Lennie James, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Freya Tingley with Keith Parmar (“Mob Rules”) directing from his own script. Alan Simpson from Grand Peaks and Chris Ranta from The Exchange are producers; exec producers include Don Simpson from Grand Peaks and Nat McCormick, Laura Ivey and Brian O’Shea from The Exchange.
“Swelter” is the first completed movie financed by Exchange Peaks Film Capital, a fund created as a full-service specialty film fund financed by Grand Peaks and run by The Exchange.
JCVD has always been one of my favourite action stars and I really hope this movie makes him the A-List star he once was and deserves to be again.
