Croft Fan Film released online!

YouTube seems to have become something of a platform for reboots of video game movies. The release of the fan film “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” spawned the highly popular series “Mortal Kombat: Legacy”, and the short film “Street Fighter: Legacy” paved the way for the upcoming series “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist”. Now, one of the great action heroines ever to emerge from the world of game consoles, Lara Croft, has gotten her own fan made reboot, just in time for Christmas!

Titled simply “Croft”, the twenty-minute thriller looks to be channeling the CW’s “Arrow”. The “Tomb Raider” films of the early 2000’s have been subject to mixed reception, and the franchise has been somewhat dormant since then until the game series was rebooted in the critically acclaimed “Tomb Raider” earlier this year.  The film, directed by Trevor Addie and starring stuntwoman Cassandra Ebner, has been making the rounds on the festival circuit earlier this year, winning Best Action Short at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival, along with numerous nominations at the Action On Film Fesitval, as well!

Here’s to hoping that Lara Croft will soon get the full-fledged reboot treatment fans have been clamoring for as a result of this short film. The twist ending certainly suggests that the filmmakers are just getting started!

About the Author

In ancient Greece, they told legends of Odysseus, Theseus, and Hercules. Our heroes on the silver screen today serve the same purpose. I grew up devouring martial arts movies from Hong Kong, action flicks from Hollywood, and superhero movies from DC and Marvel. You can bet your bottom dollar that if it's got any one of those, I wanna see it! I also write for, a site dedicated to all things martial arts; check out my stuff there, as well!
