The 10 Most Annoying Characters

There are certain movies which are hugely entertaining but are let down by annoying “comic relief” or cowardly characters.

The 80’s practically always had the annoying sidekick so there are a few on the list here, but annoying characters are even in today’s blockbusters which you can check out below.

Any characters you can’t stand?

10. Gottlieb & Geiszler AKA The Two Professors in Pacific Rim

I loved Pacific Rim but the only things that really bugged me were these two guys; were they meant to be “for the kids” because I didn’t hear anyone laughing in the cinema?!?! I did hear groans though that even in today’s blockbusters we are still subjected to unfunny comic relief. These types of buffoon characters have never been funny and never will be.

9. Robin (Chris O’Donnell) in Batman & Robin

I rarely see him mentioned on other people’s annoying character lists but by God does he deserve to be on it. Rather than being Batman’s trusty sidekick, in this movie Robin comes across as a spoiled brat who wants his own car, constantly pesters Batsy about doing his own thing and isn’t remotely sympathetic. Actually now that I think about it, every character in this movie is annoying.

8. Russell Casse (Randy Quaid) from Independence Day

I enjoy ID4 as much as the next guy as it’s hugely entertaining cheese but Randy Quaid’s drunken loser isn’t funny at all and is without a doubt the weakest link in the movie. At least he has a heroic finale, which is mildly redeeming.

7. Bobby Zachs (Morris Chestnut) Under Siege 2: Dark Terrtory

Steven Seagal doesn’t need a sidekick, perhaps a side order of fries, but the man can take care of himself so I’m not sure why in both Under Siege movies he is lumbered with annoying “help”. At least Erika Eleniak gets naked so she’s safe. Bobby Zachs spends the movie acting like a scared girl and lets down what is otherwise a fun actioner. Chestnut would go on to play a bad guy in another Seagal feature (Half Past Dead) almost as an apology.

6. Rachel Ferrier (Dakota Fanning) in War of the Worlds

Oh. My. God. I can literally not even sit through this movie anymore. Impressive visuals aside, Tom Cruise’s family in general are just plain awful but Fanning spends the movie screaming so loudly you are praying for the aliens to vaporize her annoying ass.

5. Cindy (Rae Dawn Chong) from Commando

So many 80’s action movies were guilty of just having the female characters scream and need to be rescued and I’m afraid she is the only problem I have with this otherwise awesome actioner. She doesn’t even get naked. Lame.

4. Leo Getz (Joe Pesci) in the Lethal Weapon series

I know it’s blasphemy but I have never liked Pesci in these movies; the banter between Riggs and Murtaugh was sufficiently funny so bringing this character into EVERY sequel is why Lethal Weapon 1 will always be my favourite of the series.

3. Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker) in The Fifth Element

I know plenty of you like this character for some bizarre reason, but like The Phantom Menace he’s equally as annoying as Jar Jar and ruins what would be an otherwise classic sci-fi actioner. I still enjoy the movie but my God he is annoying and it’s once again the reluctant, cowardly sidekick.

2. Willie Scott (Kate Capshaw) in Temple of Doom

A lot of people tend to hate Short Round but I actually think he’s quite cool; but this character is the most annoying, squealing banshee ever and is why I can never truly love this movie, despite some excellent action set-pieces. After the tough yet likeable Marion, Willie Scott was a real step back and any time I think about sticking on the movie, I remember her and reach for my Raiders Blu Ray instead.

1. Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace

Well, this waste of celluloid was always going to be numero uno on anyone’s list of annoying characters. Racially offensive & unfunny, he managed to completely ruin my most anticipated movie of all time. Oh and he’s single handedly responsible for the rise of the Empire. Great job. Prick.
