JCVD vs. Seagal @ TIFF from November

Well this is the greatest news in the history of awesome; as a resident of Toronto I will personally be at a few of these screenings.

The TIFF Lightbox will be showing some of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steve Seagal’s best films including Bloodsport, Hard Target, Under Siege and Out for Justice.Check out the full details from the TIFF website.

The first edition of our knock-down, drag-out audience-participation series Versus pits two titans of the action genre against each other for a high-kicking, forearm-snapping, ponytail-pulling fight to the finish.

November 11
Frank Dux has entered the “kumite”, an illegal underground martial-arts competition where serious injury and even death are not unknown. In town for the fight are a number of fighters (all with different styles), as well as a journalist determined to get her story. Chong Li, a particularly ruthless and vicious fighter is the favourite, but then again Dux has never fought him before.

Above the Law

November 18
A Chicago cop and former CIA agent (Steven Seagal) uncovers a spook-run drug-smuggling conspiracy.

Universal Soldier

December 2
After killing each other on a Vietnamese battlefield, two mortal enemies (Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren) are revived as genetically enhanced, lethally efficient super-soldiers, in this sequel-spawning sci-fi actioner.

Hard to Kill

December 9
A tough cop (Steven Seagal) emerges from a seven-year coma and sets out for revenge on the baddies that murdered his wife.

Hard Target

December 16
A high-kicking Cajun seaman (Jean-Claude Van Damme) uses his bayou-bred survival skills to take on a nasty cabal of international mercenaries, in the North American debut of HK action ace John Woo.

Out for Justice

December 23
Steven Seagal sought to bring some serious-movie gravitas to his ass-kickery and bone-snappery with this combination of straight-up action flick and sub-Scorsese gangland melodrama.

December 30
Jean-Claude Van Damme earned the best reviews of his career for his performance as “himself” in this cleverly self-reflexive, neo-Godardian meditation on faded big-screen stardom and failed off-screen life.

Under Siege

January 6
Steven Seagal scored his biggest critical and commercial hit with this shipboard spin on the Die Hard formula, which pits a former Navy SEAL against a team of mercenaries that has hijacked a missile-laden battleship.

At the end of the season, TIFF will count up your votes and proclaim the winner with a triumphant showing of one of their previously unscreened classics.

I grew up watching JCVD, Sly and Arnold destroy bad guys, blow things up and spew one-liners like it's a fashion statement. Action is everything I go to the movies for and the reason I came up with this site is to share my love for the genre with everyone.

TIFF: Films in Flesh + Blood: The Films of Paul Verhoeven

If there’s one director I miss in Hollywood these days, it’s Paul Verhoeven. He was always at his best doing ultra-violent and satirical sci-fi like RoboCop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers. TIFF in Toronto will be featu...
