I’ve been a fan of Tom Sizemore for years; True Romance, Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, Heat, Striking Distance, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man and Passenger 57 are just a few films on his resume.
Next up is a movie called An Honest Thief. Check out the official Press Release for the movie below.
Tom Sizemore was born and raised in Detroit. He left his hometown to pursue an acting career in Hollywood.
He realized that dream with star turns in the films Heat, Saving Private Ryan, and Black Hawk Down, among others. He now co-stars on the Sundance Channel’s The Red Road.
Although Tom lives in Los Angeles, in his heart Detroit remains his home. Much like his hometown, Tom has endured his share of hard times. All of these difficulties are well chronicled. It’s almost as if Tom and his hometown are umbilically linked. They’ve both made mistakes. They’ve both been kicked at, picked apart, and even given up on. However, they have both endured. A bit of Detroit’s grit must be in Tom Sizemore’s DNA. It therefore makes sense that Tom hopes to produce his first feature film in Detroit. That film effort – entitled An Honest Thief — embodies the most compelling aspects of family, roots, and perseverance.
Tom’s younger brother, Aaron, remained in Detroit and wrote An Honest Thief. The two brothers often talked about collaborating on a film. So, Aaron started working on a screenplay. Many rewrites later, he felt he had written something worthy of production. When Aaron presented his screenplay to his brother, Tom knew that this was his chance at a meaningful homecoming.
“Aaron and I both love Detroit,” Tom says. “We can do something special with An Honest Thief. My brother set the story in our hometown. It makes perfect sense to film it in Detroit.”
“I thought I could write something that Tom and I could proudly put our names on,” Aaron says. “We also want to do our part to help the city that we love and call home.”
With Tom Sizemore, Danny Trejo, Malik Barnhardt, David Proval, and Sally Kellerman, the film has an impressive cast. However, the film still needs financing. To that end, the Sizemore brothers will launch a campaign on Indiegogo, an internet site devoted to crowd funding, launching on Monday September 15th. If successful, roughly 80% of the money raised will be invested in Detroit. Those that give to the campaign will also receive unique perks that range from, coffee mugs and T-shirts that say “I Helped An Honest Thief”, to producer credits, private screenings, roles as an extra, behind-the-scene set visits, Executive Producer credits, Lunch with cast members and much more.
“We’ll make this movie not just in Detroit but with Detroit,” Tom says. “All of the great people who still live in Detroit and kept the light on so I could come home again.”
