Seagal Signs on for ‘Cypher’

Well everyone else has already reported this apparently but better late than never eh? Thanks to Jeff Turner for bringing this to my attention.

Variety is reporting that Steven Seagal has signed on for a new movie called Cypher which might just get a theatrical release.

Aiming for a resurgence of his long career as an action star, Steven Seagal has come on board “Cypher” at Aldamisa Intl.

Aldamisa topper Sergei Bespalev and Seagal are producing the $25 million project, targeted for an April launch of production. The project has been quietly unveiled at the American Film Market with preliminary discussions about international sales.

Seagal will portray a special forces operative who — frustrated with the bureaucracy of war — goes rogue and tries to exterminate terrorists being protected by the government.

Seagal playing a special forces operative?… that’s a stretch. Despite languishing in straight to DVD land for a few years Seagal has kept his career alive by having a new movie out pretty much every two weeks. They may not all be the best quality but some of them have been decent.

I like the sound of Cypher though and if it gets a theatrical release, I’ll be there with bells on… but I’ll try to keep the noise down.
