As you all know, The Action Elite were proud sponsors of the 2014 Urban Action Showcase and Expo in New York City. The show is about celebrating diversity in the action genre and this year was a great success.

We got to spend time with Cynthia Rothrock, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Bobby Samuels, Marresse Crump, Gloria Hendry and the producers of Donnie Yen’s new film The Monkey King.

One of the many highlights for me was the martial arts seminar given by Cynthia Rothrock. Several volunteers would be trained by the action icon and given invaluable advice on how to react during a movie fight scene.

Believe it or not, never laughing was something that was emphasized as it would ruin any footage that could be used during editing.

Below are a few video clips of the seminar including friend of The Action Elite Mr. Tyler Williams. He’s the guy in The Action Elite T-shirt which was rather awesome. I might add that this wasn’t planned at all by me and was a fantastic surprise. *slips Tyler 50 bucks*

There were Feature/Short Film Contests, TV Pilot Awards, Webisodes, Independent comic artists, Stunt Contests and much more. O course there was also a 30th anniversary screening of The Last Dragon with Taimak and other cast members.

Below are some photos from the event, including the VIP party at the HBO Head Office in New York. The guy in the blue shirt and vest is me, in case you’re all wondering. It was a real honour to meet Don Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock and Bobby Samuels who were all extremely welcoming.

We also got to see a sneak peak of The Martial Arts Kid which is looking like a lot of fun.

This amazing event wouldn’t have happened without the hard work of Demetrius Angelo; the man who worked tirelessly to get everything arranged and made the show such a success.

Here is his opening speech where he discussed the various kinds of action which is a subject I’ve always found interesting.

Demetrius mentioned that martial arts, superheroes, adventure, supernatural, fantasy and sci-fi movies can all be considered action in some way. It’s not always a one man army… even if that is my personal favourite genre.

Demetrius’ humble attitude and sheer determination make him an inspiration and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with for the 2015 Urban Action Showcase. Thank you to Demetrius for allowing The Action Elite to be a part of the Urban Action Showcase and here’s to the next one!

I grew up watching JCVD, Sly and Arnold destroy bad guys, blow things up and spew one-liners like it's a fashion statement. Action is everything I go to the movies for and the reason I came up with this site is to share my love for the genre with everyone. We also want to help promote new talent whether you're making blockbusters, low-budget Indie movies or fan films; if it's action, it's awesome.
