Details on Albert Pyun’s The Kickboxer: City of Blood

You’re probably wondering why I haven’t written a piece about this movie yet but the reason is that it was mostly rumours and hearsay floating about with very little that was concrete.

It appears this movie is now moving forward so despite this probably being old news to the majority of you, here is what we know so far.

Director Albert Pyun (Cyborg, Nemesis, etc) is directing a new Kickboxer film which is in no way related to the other upcoming Kickboxer movie starring Alain Moussi and JCVD.

This new project is called The Kickboxer: City of Blood and has Sasha Mitchell returning to the series but not as David Sloan; this time he’s playing a character called David Anderson. This was originally going to be a web series but has since developed into a full feature.

There is a recently updated synopsis which I stole from Film Combat Syndicate courtesy of Lee Golden (cheers mate).

Sasha Mitchell will star in a newly revamped story to portray troubled UN peacekeeper, David Anderson, forced underground through near century-old World War II tunnels to evade Myanmar’s secret police while protecting a young witness to a slate of political murders.

That actually sounds kinda cool with a different story from what we’re used to in the genre; it’s also very current so I am definitely interested to see more of this project. The funny thing is though, it doesn’t sound anything like a Kickboxer movie; there doesn’t seem to be any mention of martial arts or fighting so they probably could have called it something else.

Rumour has it Pyun would like Mark Dacascos to come on board as a villain which would be a nice nod to the older Kickboxer films. There is also word that Kevin Sorbo may be on board, so take from that what you will. The movie is being produced by Mike Leeder who is currently working with Mark Dacascos on Ultimate Justice which is out next year.

Albert Pyun is aiming The Kickboxer: City Of Blood, to be his biggest film to date as shooting readies for Guangzhou, China over at ACE Studios at the end of January.
