This means only one thing; we’re going to be getting a new actor playing the iconic archeologist. This is a tough one to swallow for a lot of us.
It’s not like James Bond where Jones was adapted from a series of books so it was OK to have different actors play the role over the years; Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones in the same way that Bruce Willis is John McClane and Sylvester Stallone is Rambo.
On the flip side of that though we have already seen several actors portray Jones at different stages of his life; we had the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles with Sean Patrick Flannery as Indy and even at the start of The Last Crusade we had the late River Phoenix play him.
If they must give us a new Indiana Jones film then I think the best way is to (if he’s still alive) have Harrison Ford at the start in the way that Bilbo is in The Hobbit movies and then do it as a flashback to a younger actor. Also I don’t want a remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark; it’s a perfect movie so try to come up with something new… surely it can’t be that hard, Hollywood…
That’s pretty much the only way I would watch it, now the question is who should play him? Chris Pratt is the favourite and I think he could be pretty good in the role; he practically was Indy in Jurassic World and that Photoshop job above is a rather good likeness as well. Indy isn’t all wisecracks, so I would want him to still have a bit of the world weariness that Ford brought to the character.
There was also the idea of Bradley Cooper who is another good actor and could probably bring something to the role. Didn’t Hugh Jackman also want to play Indy at one point?
For a random interlude here is one Tom Selleck’s audition for the role many years ago…
