Could Mad Max Win Best Picture?

maxresdefault (1)

I know it sounds crazy that an R-rated action movie could win an Oscar, however just last week the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) voted Mad Max: Fury Road as the best film of the year.

According to THR the post-apocalyptic action movie beat out three other finalists for the best film honor: Laszlo Nemes’ Son of Saul, Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s The Assassin and Jafar Panahi’s Taxi.

Personally I would love to see the genre get more respect during awards season and with the overwhelmingly positive response the movie has received it just might have a chance.

It would also be nice to see all the stuntwork get the recognition it deserves but we’ve all discussed that before.

I imagine it stands no chance at all at winning a Best Picture Oscar but we can still hope for it. Maybe we should start a petition…

I grew up watching JCVD, Sly and Arnold destroy bad guys, blow things up and spew one-liners like it's a fashion statement. Action is everything I go to the movies for and the reason I came up with this site is to share my love for the genre with everyone. We also want to help promote new talent whether you're making blockbusters, low-budget Indie movies or fan films; if it's action, it's awesome.
