Today we are debuting an exclusive clip from Icelandic action thriller Brave Men’s Blood. It is being released Stateside courtesy of Oscilloscope Laboratories and opens on VOD tomorrow, September 8th.
SYNOPSIS: From the director of “City State” comes BRAVE MEN’S BLOOD, a crime thriller set against the background of corruption, drugs, torture and Icelandic gangsters. When a former criminal kingpin tips off the head of Internal Affairs about the double-dealings of a high-profile police lieutenant, the ensuing investigations leads them deep into the seedy underworld of Reykjavik, where corruption and collusion run rampant, and no one is who they seem to be.
Brave Men’s Blood is my most ambitious fiction feature to date. It is an independent sequel to my previous film from 2011 called City State. With City State we had established an existing world within our small island nation of Iceland, a country that has lost its innocence in the past two decades as the rate of crime has increased and become more serious. In City State we had created very interesting characters and I felt that there was more left to tell of their fate.
We started developing the project a few months after City State was released and shot the film in the summer of 2013. I felt blessed to be working with these great actors again and most of the creative crew from the previous film, who had come on board for Brave Men’s Blood. With this film, I was particularly excited to execute some of the challenging scenes we had written for this action driven crime thriller, i.e. scenes containing interesting stunts and car chases.
I was proud to see Brave Men’s Blood open in Iceland to critical acclaim and receive four nominations at the Icelandic Film Academy Awards including best picture and director of the year 2014. I was also very happy to see the film premiere internationally at the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this year in the Spectrum section and hope to see it travel much further on later in the year. — Olaf de Fleur
