Jason Statham’s Long-Rumoured ‘Layer Cake’ Sequel Is Becoming A TV Series

According to Digital Spy Jason Statham’s Layer Cake sequel Viva La Madness is finally happening – with a bit of a twist.

While the long-rumoured follow-up to JJ Connolly’s Layer Cake is actually moving forward, the author will now be adapting the crime novel into a television series rather than a movie.

Gaumont International TV revealed today (September 17) that it is partnering with Connolly to turn Viva La Madness into an episodic drama.

“Viva La Madness, with its riveting characters and twisting storyline, is a volatile cocktail of action and comedy that only JJ Connolly can create,” Gaumont’s Katie O’Connell Marsh announced.

“Jason Statham, known for his roles in the Transporter trilogy, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, The Bank Job, as well as the recent Furious 7 and Spy, brings such strength and credibility to his characters but also has an effortless shade of vulnerability that gives him so much dimension on screen.”

Statham will play an unnamed London gangster exiled to the Caribbean, where he joins forces with two fellow mobsters to plot his criminal comeback.

No network is attached to Viva La Madness yet, but it is sure to attract attention, being Statham’s first major ongoing television project.
