The Beautiful Ones is Jesse Johnson’s love letter to the genre-films he loves, the French Gangster films of the 50’s and 60’s, the American Crime Movies of the 70’s and British Kitchen Sink films of the 60’s. It is essentially a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet set within the Los Angeles underworld.
Tomorrow night, Art Camacho’s THE CHEMIST, starring Olivier Gruner plays at 7pm. The plot is as follows: Ronus Steele is a gifted chemical engineer – turned assassin. He uses his unique talents to eliminate targets swiftly and quietly with chemical poisons. His employer; Blackstone provides Steele with all of his cases and he’s good at what he does. The head of Blackstone thinks Steele is an aging assassin that needs to retire and plans a hit on him with assigning him an apprentice – who will ultimately try to terminate him.
Steele is given a critical case to terminate a high profile drug lord and when the hit goes completely wrong, his apprentice; Blaine takes care of the target. This doesn’t go unnoticed by his boss, Claxton, at Blackstone and he sets up Steele for another hit that he knows will ultimately fail.
His next assignment is Gabriela; a beautiful college student that is his next target. After years with the same employer, Steele becomes emotionally involved with her and he finds himself protecting her from being killed. On the run; Steele and Gabriela become the next targets in this fast-paced battle between assassin vs. assassin until he is surprised with a secret that changes everything about what he thought he knew.
