Hey Hollywood! We Want Die Hard 24/7

DAMMIT! Kiefer Sutherland recently mentioned that he was done for good with 24. When speaking with the BBC he said “24 is definitely over now for me. It’s one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever been given as an actor, but it’s moving on without me, I want to do other things. I don’t think there’s a better medium than television out there at the moment. So think I want to do more of it and look for projects where I can repeat my experience.

You have to take your time though to find something like it – and that means you have to work less. So I’ll be waiting for something that’s worth it, with the potential for the kind of audience access that 24 had.

“Fair enough” you might say but after 24: Live Another Day ended with that massive cliff-hanger, I think fans deserve a more satisfying final chapter for Bauer. You’ll remember that Jack was taken away by the Russians at the end leaving the story very much open. That’s no way to end the show for me and while staring into space last night I thought wait a minute, I have an idea!

There was talk as you all know of a crossover a few years ago of Die Hard and 24. John McClane and Jack Bauer in the same movie? That could be the shoutiest movie of all time!

I then thought well, how could we make that work? The last Die Hard movie was incredibly disappointing… but it does have one thing in its favour. It took place in Russia.

So what if McClane spotted Jack being stuffed into the back of a van and he follows it thinking an innocent bystander may be in trouble. He could kill a few terrorists and free Jack and together the two of them (and maybe with the help of McClane Jr. *sigh*) they spend the movie battling more Russian villains? The only problem is I believe at the end of Die Hard 5 they left Russia but there are plenty of ways of setting it up.

The movie could move to other locations as well so it doesn’t feel like the same movie as A Good Day to Die Hard but for the love of God give McClane his personality back and give us a Hard R rating. I also want McTiernan back to direct; someone who understands the character and can give us what we really want to see.

It could be a satisfying conclusion for both franchises and a helluva lot of fun.

These are just my drunken ramblings but I for one would watch the shit out of that.
