Kickboxer Sequel Already on the Way!

Now this is what I like to hear; a little optimism about the upcoming Kickboxer: Vengeance. The good folks behind it must be confident that it’s decent as the sequel has already been greenlit.

Deadline reports “with Kickboxer Vengeance still in post-production, Headmon Entertainment and Acme Rocket Fuel said funding is in place for a sequel, to be titled Kickboxer 2: Retaliation. A remake of the schlocky ’80s martial arts classic that starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as brother-avenging kickboxer Kurt Sloan, Kickboxer Vengeance sees newcomer Alain Moussi in the role of Sloan and Van Damme playing Sloan’s mentor, Master Durand. Also appearing in the film is Guardians Of The Galaxy and Spectre co-star Dave Bautista, Haywire‘s Gina Carano, and UFC champion George St. Pierre.

It’s directed by John Stockwell from a script by Dimitri Logothetis of Acme Rocket Fuel and Jim McGrath, and is due for release in 2016.

Kickboxer Vengeance and Kickboxer 2: Retaliation are the first two projects for Acme Rocket Fuel. Headmon is providing the majority of funding for Kickboxer 2: Retaliation. Rob Hickman of Headmon, along with Logothetis and Ted Field of Radar Pictures, produce both films, with Larry Nealy and Steven Michael Swadling executive producing.”

I must say though that I hate Deadline’s use of the word “schlocky” in the above quote; it reeks of typical film snobs looking down on our beloved genre.

Anyway, I can’t wait to get a trailer for Kickboxer: Vengeance which will likely be coming soon.

I grew up watching JCVD, Sly and Arnold destroy bad guys, blow things up and spew one-liners like it's a fashion statement. Action is everything I go to the movies for and the reason I came up with this site is to share my love for the genre with everyone. We also want to help promote new talent whether you're making blockbusters, low-budget Indie movies or fan films; if it's action, it's awesome.
