The plot was about a double-dealing member of an elite group of hit men who becomes the ultimate target when his organization discovers his deceit.
The cast includes Gary Daniels, Michael Madsen, Christopher Stapleton, John Koyama and George Cheung.
According to a post on IMDB “it would appear that original production company (Giants Entertainment) folded and the film languished in a vault somewhere.
It seemed that occasionally the film would show up in different “libraries” and yet queries about possible releasing went unanswered. The only hint that this film came close to being released (direct-to-video) is if you check out the Bayshore Media Group website it would seem that they may have come close based on images which are on the site. Alas, Bayshore was merged and/or acquired by a Canadian company and yet again the film has apparently gone back to “distribution purgatory”.
Recently I discovered a version of the movie on YouTube but I’m not entirely sure just how complete the movie was.
According to some of the comments below the video the editor Braden Barty was not listed in the credits. He said “WOW!!! Notice something vitally missing from the credits? THE EDITOR!!
I EDITED THIS MOVIE with Darren Doane. My thanks to the Dadons who took the movie I edited and put all those BS Production Credits at the intro. You can’t even find most of those names on IMDB.
Well one thing is for certain, no one else can claim real credit to editing the movie, at least the first cut I delivered and screened since I was there. But this is a fact,15 years later I’m still working in Hollywood and the David Dadons are not. I was credited as Videographer, that doesn’t explain what I was doing inside that editing trailer everyday on set. Good movie. I wish we could see the wide screen version.”
The original writer of the movie Jim Chadwick said: “I’m the writer of this movie. All I’ve had for years has been a crappy VHS copy that the film producers made for me. Don’t know if this was ever actually released anywhere. Glad to see it in full and finally available for a wider audience at last. I haven’t actually watched it in a while. I will have to see it again. A lot was changed from my original script.”
So it sounds like this has certainly had an interesting history.
Anyway, for your viewing pleasure here is the YouTube release of Ides of March AKA Ultimate Target. Enjoy!
