An Action-Packed August?

It’s kind of quiet just now in terms of interesting action movies but it’s looking like August is shaping up to be one of the best months of the year for action fans.

Some of these movies have been in limbo for a while but now we are finally getting to see them.

So let’s take a look at what’s coming in August 2016.

Mechanic: Resurrection

First off we have Mechanic: Resurrection starring Jason Statham, Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones.

Release Date: 26 August 2016

Plot: Arthur Bishop thought he had put his murderous past behind him when his most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life. Now he is forced to travel the globe to complete three impossible assassinations, and do what he does best, make them look like accidents.

We’ve been waiting for this movie for what feels like forever and hopefully we’ll get our first trailer soon.

Kickboxer: Vengeance

Kickboxer: Vengeance will finally be released in August and with a cast that includes Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alain Moussi, Gina Carano, Darren Shahlavi and GSP it will hopefully reignite Western martial arts movies.

Release Date: August 19th

Plot: Eric and Kurt Sloane are the descendants of a well-known Venice, California-based family of martial artists. Kurt has always been in older brother, Eric’s shadow, as he lacks the instincts needed to become a champion. Against Kurt’s concerns, Eric accepts a paid offer and travels to Thailand to challenge the Muay Thai champion Tong Po and fails with dire consequences. Kurt sets out for revenge. He trains with his brother’s mentor, Durand, for a Muay Thai fight against the merciless champion, Tong Po. Durand first thinks Kurt is impossible to train, but through a series of spiritual exercises and tests, Durand discovers that Kurt has a deeper strength that will carry him through his final showdown with Tong Po.

Blood Father - Still 3

Blood Father

Mel Gibson’s Blood Father is also finally getting a theatrical release and there really isn’t much that I haven’t said about it already. The book was awesome and Gibbo is perfectly cast as outlaw biker Link.

Release Date: August 26th

Plot: An ex-con (Mel Gibson) goes on the run with his estranged daughter (Erin Moriarty) to protect her from drug dealers out to kill her after she’s framed for stealing their cash.

Hell or High Water

Hell or High Water gives off a No Country for Old Men kinda vibe so it might be quite slow burn but the trailer promised some interesting character moments with some exciting heist action. Ben Foster is always magnetic on screen and is scary even if he plays a good guy.

Release Date: 12 August 2016

Plot: A divorced dad and his ex-con brother resort to a desperate scheme in order to save their family’s farm in West Texas.

Suicide Squad

For comic book fans there is also highly anticipated Suicide Squad which has Jared Leto as The Joker and Ben Affleck returning as Batman. I’m really looking forward to it as it looks quite unique.

Release Date: 5 August 2016

Plot: A secret government agency run by Amanda Waller, named A.R.G.U.S creates a task force comprising super villains, the “Suicide Squad”. They are assigned to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.

Chasing the Dragon is one of my favourite movies of the year; it was something different from Donnie Yen and the addition of Andy Lau only made it better. What’s even cooler is that I’m quoted in the trailer which i...
