The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight (2008)

The Batman movie trilogy by Christopher Nolan is one of the best acclaimed superhero movies collections of all time. But The Dark Knight (2008), the second movie of the series surpassed expectations to become the best superhero movie ever to be made up to that date.

The Dark Knight was highly successful as a movie as well as a sequel. Being the follow up to Batman Begins, it expanded and gave more depth to the characters and themes from the first movie. The plot was inspired from the original stories such as The Long Halloween and The Killing Joke depicting the character of Joker, portrayed by Heath Ledger. Batman’s character was played by Christian Bale who also portrayed the character in the first movie.

Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker was highly praised by critics and audiences and was able to win him the Oscar for the Best Supporting Actor. Despite fans being wary when he was first announced for the movie his Joker was the highlight of The Dark Knight. Ledger set a standard not only for any new actors who would portray Joker in the future, but also for all the villains to come.

Created by Warner Bros. the superhero movie, The Dark Knight not only displayed the clash between Batman and The Clown Prince of Crime, but also an insight to a new story which went beyond the limitations of comic books exploring the motivations of Bruce Wayne and his dual identity. The Dark Knight is not just an awesome superhero movie, but it’s also a great movie for anyone and everyone.

The Avengers (2012)

The Avengers, a movie that combined four existing and popular superhero franchises together is also a movie that saw massive success. Joss Whedon, the director of The Avengers pulled off a huge challenge and made this one of the best superhero movies of all time.

In addition to the direction, the movie excelled in many areas. From its drama, humor, action and adventure, everything about the movie was way above average. The casting, to the delight of the fans was taken from the superhero movies of individual franchises, included Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston etc. Mark Ruffalo was taken to portray the character of hulk.

The Avengers gained its stardom and became a fan-favorite mostly because Joss Whedon decided to stick to the actual storyline from the comic books. The plot was completely based on the comic book Avengers and the original story. Although the portrayal of Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor and The Black Widow were not 100% on point, the story depicted pure, unchanged versions of all the comic book characters.

The movie not only did a great job in its storyline, but also was packed with great special effects, action and dialogue. The banter between the heroes combined with the clash with the story’s main villain Loki, gave an unforgettably entertaining output for the superhero movie fans. The Avengers movie, created and released by Marvel Studios is an excellent movie that will remain in our hearts for decades to come.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Another movie from the Marvel universe, Captain America: The Winter Soldier created by the Russo brothers is one that tops the list of best superhero movies.

With a great challenge to capture the hearts of comic book fan audiences, Joe and Anthony Russo gave Captain America a new light. The story has the Captain a.k.a. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) facing off against an assassin by the name of Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), a threat from the past. The Captain teams up with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) to fight the new villain.

This movie shows how a sequel can easily surpass the first movie of the series. Although Captain America: The First Avenger didn’t disappoint us, The Winter Soldier sure beats it with a sense of scale we hadn’t seen in the first movie.

With great special effects, fight scenes and a strong plot, the movie was able to gain the praise of all comic and movie fans, even more than his successor Captain America: Civil War. The strong portrayal of the characters and the flawless acting highlighted Captain America: The Winter Soldier as one of the best superhero movies of all time. With spotlight moments for all the main characters and a thrilling journey with exciting plot twists, The Winter Soldier kept its mark in the list of superhero movies. It showed audiences that there has never been a better time to be a superhero fan.
