To Sequel?

Should Keanu Come Back for Speed 3?

A couple of years ago there were whispers that Keanu Reeves would be interested in returning to the role of Jack Traven; his action hero from the 1994 classic Speed.

After the disastrous sequel starring Jason Patric and Sandra Bullock, it essentially killed any hope of another sequel. Many years have passed though and with belated sequels or even requels coming up now might be the perfect time to do a REAL Speed 2.

In an interview with Nerdist during promotion for John Wick Reeves was asked if he would do a third Speed movie and he responded with “Oh my god, Speed 3: Redemption. Sure. Jack Traven kind of like, dusting it off.”

For years he said he wouldn’t be interested in returning to the role but after being out of the limelight for a few years and rediscovering his inner badass in John Wick now might be the perfect time for a new Speed sequel.

But how would you do it? My first thought would be a runaway train but we already had that with Tony Scott’s last film Unstoppable and it’s too soon for the franchise to be set in space. Or is it? Shut up, Eoin.

Maybe we don’t need to do another fast vehicle storyline which would just be more of the same; what about Howard Payne’s (Dennis Hopper) son wants revenge on Traven for killing his (deranged) father? Keep it simple with a bunch of devices around the city which Traven needs to solve? Oh wait, that’s Die Hard With a Vengeance… and 12 Rounds.

There was a guy who used to write for this site before he went A.W.O.L. for no reason and he came up with a cool idea which involved F1 race-cars with bombs attached and they were set loose around the city and it was up to Jack to stop them from destroying specific targets. That idea had potential then again, maybe we should just leave it and have Keanu make 45 John Wick movies instead. Works for me.

I grew up watching JCVD, Sly and Arnold destroy bad guys, blow things up and spew one-liners like it's a fashion statement. Action is everything I go to the movies for and the reason I came up with this site is to share my love for the genre with everyone. We also want to help promote new talent whether you're making blockbusters, low-budget Indie movies or fan films; if it's action, it's awesome.
