Will Renner Team Up With Damon for the Next Bourne?

After the rather tasty opening box office for Jason Bourne this past weekend ($60,000,000 domestically) I imagine another entry for the series will be inevitable.

The story for Jason Bourne wasn’t all that interesting and strangely left out any reference to Jeremy Renner’s character Aaron Cross from the previous movie The Bourne Legacy.

Personally I never liked Legacy but I think it might be cool to see Bourne and Cross teaming up to take down some evil government agencies.

Sadly though it doesn’t look all that likely as according to an interview with Matt Damon at TIFF last year the Toronto Sun asked Damon about a potential crossover.

“We didn’t want to mess with their mythology at all because it’s its own thing, and we obviously would never want to get in the way of that,” said Damon. “To try to factor in a whole other character and storyline seemed like a bridge too far.”

Also tricky is the fact that Renner’s The Bourne Legacy is set in 2004, the same timeframe as the two Bourne movies before it. Damon’s Bourne will have naturally aged since the events of the last film, but only three years have passed since Renner played Aaron Cross.

“So do you age Jeremy 12 years? So Aaron Cross is now 52? They’d have to figure that part out too,” said Damon. “But that’s above my pay grade.”

With the new movie having a decent box office though I’m sure they could find some movie logic way around it…
