3rd Annual Widescreen Awards A Smashing Success

With a sold out Yacht award show and well attended screenings at AMC 24 Theater in Aventura, the 3rd annual Widescreen Film & Music Video Awards were a huge success. Film creators and stars came from many different countries to the events and even the host hotel Sawgrass Grand got in on the action, with an open bar on Friday night and a pool party on Sunday prior to the Yacht Award show complete with free drinks, pizza, and a DJ. Fest director Jarrod Knowles strives for a greater show each year.

By splitting up the award show to two nights, with the technical awards on the first night at the AMC theater and then the main award on the South Beach Lady Yacht, Jarrod was able to keep the show moving and people engaged.

A few select films including The Code of Cain, The Turnaround, The Gate, and Fist of the Dragon won multiple awards. The Gate won best for director for narrative short (Kellie Madison). Fist of the Dragon’s JuJu Chan was honored with best actress in the feature film category. The Turnaround won for best feature film. A very diverse festival, with films of all styles and genres awarded.

The four hour yacht ride that included the award show was the crowning jewel on the weekend festivities, and offered guests a distinctly memorable four level experience and a sail across Miami’s Biscayne Bay. The red carpet was on the yacht itself. After dinner and the award ceremony, it was photos, then up to the top deck to dance the night away all in view of the Miami skyline.I invited my cinematographer/DP friend Carmen Cabana (Narcos Season 2 and Assassin X DP as well to the event here is us at the table, I was sitting in between her and JuJu Chan, a great night!

Angel Has Fallen Found a Director?

I love the “Has Fallen” franchise; it’s old-school action and the only problem I’ve had with both movies so far was the dodgy CGI but hopefully with this third entry it will be kept to a minimum. Deadlin...
