Johnson/Statham Spinoff is a Go?

We all know the best thing about The Fate of the Furious was the witty banter between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as they start as bitter enemies but by the end of the movie, they are in full-on bromance mode. There have been whispers about a potential spinoff featuring the two characters but according to Deadline it looks more and more likely.

They state: “Universal is huddling on a spinoff that will focus on the characters originated by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham and most recently seen in The Fate of the Furious, sources said. The franchise architects have said they might broaden the universe with spinoffs, and source said this is the one they are pursuing.

This is in early stages, but they’ve met on the concept, which sources said will be scripted by Chris Morgan, the chief writer of the series that is hitting new heights with the eighth installment. The idea is for Johnson’s U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs to form an unlikely alliance with Statham’s Decker Shaw for a movie that conceivably could be made while they are figuring the next Fast film.”

As you all know rumour has it that there was apparently a scene between the two at the end credits of F8 but was cut because Vin Diesel hadn’t approved it which is what caused the beef between Vin and The Rock. Sorry Vin, but you are the least interesting character in these movies. I hope this movie happens as it could be an absolute blast if handled correctly.
