Breaker! Breaker! (1977) Review

Summary

If you’re a Chuck Norris completist, you should definitely upgrade this film for your collection. As in Olive’s previous Chuck Norris release Firewalker, this release is an improvement over the DVD in every way, aside from the fact that the disc does not contain any special features. Aside from that, this is another solid release from Olive Films.

Synopsis: A truck driver searches for his brother, who has disappeared in a town run by a corrupt judge.

Review: Trucker J.D. (Chuck Norris) sends his younger brother on a delivery run through California, and what ends up happening is that his brother is waylaid in an enclave town called Texas City, where an insane judge has set up his own law, order, and brand of corrupt justice. After a day of not hearing from him, J.D. travels the same path and ends up in the same town where his brother disappeared. Right away, J.D. is met with resistance and brutality, but what the crazy judge and his corrupt law enforcement weren’t counting on is that J.D. is one hell of a fighter! With the help of a single mother living on the outskirts of the town, J.D. is assisted by outlying truckers who respond to a “Breaker! Breaker!” call on a CB radio. The climax has about a dozen big rig trucks bulldozing the town to cinders.

This was Chuck’s first solo outing as an action star. Before this he appeared opposite Bruce Lee in Game of Death and The Way of the Dragon, and in Slaughter in San Francisco as Chuck Slaughter. After Breaker! Breaker! he starred in Good Guys Wear Black. Fans of his may want to check this smallish actioner out, but it’s not one of his best films. The director, Don Hulette, also composed the dated music.

Olive Films has just released Breaker! Breaker! onto a remastered Bu-ray with nice key art. The old MGM DVD was adequate and served its purpose, but if you’re a Chuck Norris completist, you should definitely upgrade this film for your collection. As in Olive’s previous Chuck Norris release Firewalker, this release is an improvement over the DVD in every way, aside from the fact that the disc does not contain any special features. Aside from that, this is another solid release from Olive Films.
